The A. Shama Rao Foundation was established in 1988 in Mangaluru by Dr. CA A. Raghavendra Rao, an eminent Chartered Accountant, visionary entrepreneur, and committed educationist. It was named in honour of his father, Late Shri A. Shama Rao (1909–1992)—a devoted teacher who began his career in 1939, founded and headed S.V.H. Higher Secondary Residential School (1943–1956), and later served as Headmaster of B.E.M. High School, Mangaluru until 1969. Even after retirement, he remained active in education and social service until his passing at 83.
Beside him stood Smt. Indiramma Shama Rao (1917–2009)—a guiding force whose strength, compassion, and wisdom shaped the Foundation’s values.
Their shared belief—that education is the most powerful tool to transform society—continues to define the Foundation’s mission. What began as a modest initiative has grown into a distinguished educational ecosystem encompassing 18 professional colleges and Srinivas University, offering over 160 programs across disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Management, Nursing, Hotel Management, Aviation, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences, and more.
